Photographs From Small Missouri Towns
My photographic work explores the contemporary sense of place and culture in small-town Missouri communities, which, like many across the country, face challenges such as rising poverty rates and declining populations as people leave rural agricultural areas for urban fringe areas. Issues such as abortion, healthcare, gun control, immigration, and racial inequality have created polarization between the cultural values of rural and urban communities. I seek to capture the impact of politics, economics, education, race, and religion on the people who live in these small towns.
