Photographs From Small Missouri Towns
Small-town communities in Missouri, like many across the country, currently face many challenges including an increasing poverty rate and a decline in population as people leave rural agricultural areas for urban fringe areas. Issues such as abortion, healthcare, gun control, immigration, and racial inequality have created polarization between the cultural values of rural and urban communities. Through my photographic work, I endeavor to reveal a contemporary sense of place and culture and the impact that politics, economics, education, race, and religion have on the people who live in these small communities.
